I have learned quite a lot already about life in Guatemala, about the running of a small business especially under the rather humble conditions prevalent in a developing country and I even got the chance to get to know a couple of other development organizations. As a student of International Development, it has been tremendously useful to me to gain first-hand experience in these areas, and it has afforded me important insights for my future research.

The Flex Social Innovator program is available throughout the year. With a minimum duration of six weeks, this volunteer program is designed for recent graduates and young professionals looking for on-the-ground international development experience outside of our traditional summer programs. Applicants can elect to work in Guatemala, Ecuador, Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic as a part of our grassroots development team.

After an intensive orientation, volunteers are placed in satellite sites where they work with Social Entrepreneur Corps leadership on specific projects and initiatives. Projects are selected based on the volunteers’ areas of interest and critical needs identified by the local SEC team.
